Short-term and Current Opportunities
Sidewalk Sunday School
Saturday mornings, June 13-August 8
10 to 11:30 a.m. at Ninth Street Park
On-the-spot helpers; SWSS truck driver; storytellers, MC’s and singers; registration table workers; school supplies organizers
Welcome Team
Volunteers to work before and after the 11 a.m. service at the Guest Connections desk. Two rotations available: Jan/Apr/July/Oct or Feb/May/Aug/Nov.
Prayer Ministry
Greeters on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 1:30 outside the Chapel

Kid.Nect
Actors for skits and skit writers
Computer or light system operator -- 1 Sunday each month for 1 year (training provided)
Church Office
Volunteers to cover front desk during staff meetings (2nd and 4th Monday mornings) and occasional 1/2 day Friday.
Children’s Ministry Security
Volunteers to help monitor the safety and security of our children during Sunday morning programming.
Early Childhood
Nursery - two workers for weeks 1, 2, and 3
Toddler room workers during the 9:45 hour

Wee Worship - Helper during 9:45 hour

Ongoing Opportunities
55 Fellowship/Senior Adults
Volunteers serve once a year (or more often if you prefer) on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Person(s) preparing the meal need to do the following:

- Enlist necessary volunteers
- Clean-up
Benevolent
We need volunteers who are available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the following emergencies:

Bereavement Meals
We have two levels of volunteers:

Preparing a dish that is served at the meal (can be brought in ahead of time)
- Helping with the meal through set-up, serving and/or clean-up
Casserole
Volunteers prepare and store meals on an as-needed, individual basis. Volunteers are asked to:

Purchase ingredients
- Prepare the meal(s) in disposable containers
- Label the containers
- Place the meal(s) in the freezer in the main kitchen
Classroom Keeper
Volunteers can work sometime between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning. Commitment is monthly. Duties include:

Setting up Early Childhood rooms

Setting out lessons

Picking up and distributing prepared materials

Setting up centers with appropriate toys for the lesson

Organize rooms as needed

Evangelism
Volunteers make phone calls to prospective members on a weekly basis as names and phone numbers are available
Extreme Hope Makeovers
Volunteers are needed for one time or several times. Skills needed include:

Outside clean-up (parks, neighborhoods, houses)
- Inside cleaning
- General contracting (painting, sheet rock hangers, etc.)
- Skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, roofers)
- Interior decorating
- Sewing
- Hospitality (house warming)
First Touch Guest Luncheon
The Luncheon is on the first Sunday of each month. Volunteers are responsible for the following:

Planning the menu

Creating an inviting atmosphere for guests

Recruiting “extra hands” if needed for a meal

Friends in Grief
Volunteers are needed for the following:

Sending cards whenever there is a death in the church family.
- Sending cards and making phone calls to a family to companion them through their grief for the first year.
- Helping to facilitate GriefShare sessions (includes sign-up, reminder calls, room set-up, greeting and support).
HeBrews Café
Volunteers are needed to serve once a month, monthly or quarterly. Saturday hours are 4:45 to 7 p.m.; Sunday hours are 7:45 to 9:45 a.m. and 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. Duties include:

House and Grounds

Volunteers meet as a team once a month. Duties are performed as needed, and include:

Working with staff and/or ministries to provide age appropriate learning and worship environments.

Meals for Moms
Volunteers are coordinated through an e-mail distribution list.
Those on the list will get an e-mail when a new baby or child has arrived and they may pick a date to cook and deliver the meal.
Media/Sound/Computer
Volunteers are on a monthly rotation; time commitment for a Sunday morning worship service is Thursday rehearsal from 5:15 to 7 p.m. and Sunday morning from 7:45 a.m. to approximately 12:15 p.m. Training is provided.
Media/Computer volunteers are responsible for:
- Computer presentation during worship services
- Ensuring all presentation slides are in place and ready to go on Sunday morning
Sound volunteers are responsible for:

Men's Fraternity
Volunteers are needed to:

Men's Prayer Breakfast
Volunteers are on a rotation, and are needed on Wednesday mornings for:

Breakfast preparation
- Room set-up
- Clean-up
- Devotions
Nursery
Volunteers serve once a month in a one-hour shift from either 9:30 to 10:30 or 10:30 to 12:15. Duties include:

Holding babies
- Rocking babies
- Playing with babies
- Feeding babies
- Diapering babies
- Room and toy clean-up
Prayer
Prayer Warriors:

Pray daily for confidential requests received through e-mail
Prayer Team:

Meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45 in Room 223

Prays as a group for our church as a whole, for the work of the Holy Spirit, for the leadership, for the various ministry areas, for a greater desire to bring many to Christ, for unity, for spiritual maturity, etc.
Preschool Classroom
Volunteers serve weekly or monthly on Sunday mornings in a shift from 9:30 to approx. 10:30 or 10:30 to approx. 12:15.
Teachers provide direction and structure by:

Helpers provide assistance to the teacher by:

Helping children sit during story time, move during music time, or go to the bathroom

Special Connections
Volunteers meet as a team monthly; assistance varies from an occasional need to those needing help on a weekly basis. Needs may include:

Watching over those with special needs of all ages on a one-on-one capacity at church services or special events
- Interviewing families regarding the needs of their child or elderly parent
- Educating the church family about special needs to help raise awareness
- Providing clerical support to the team and to communicate to the church family
Senior Adult Pastoral Care
Volunteers are needed to visit senior adult shut-ins at least once a month, or as requested.
The Edge
Volunteer commitment level can be weekly to seasonal. Opportunities include:

Toddler Room
Volunteers serve one hour monthly from either 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Duties include:

Holding children
- Rocking children
- Loving children
- Playing with children
- Preparing and serving snacks
- Diapering or taking children to the bathroom
- Reading stories
- Room and toy clean-up
Transitions
Volunteers serve in a variety of ways. Service opportunities include:

Donating good, gently used household items

Organizing and cleaning incoming items

Staffing the warehouse when it is open to receive items

Writing thank you notes to donors
-
Pick-up and delivery of items
-
Coordinating pick-up’s and deliveries

Praying with families

Providing food and necessities as needed
Transportation
Sunday morning transportation involves:

Using the church van to pick up people before worship services and taking them home afterward.

Commitment is one month at a time, possibly two times a year.

Vehicle maintenance involves:

Doing regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs to the vans or other vehicles as needed.
Teacher's Resource Center
Volunteers meet weekly on Mondays at 1:00 in the TRC Room. Opportunities for service include:

Preparing materials for classes and programs

Shopping for supplies

Organizing and indexing supplies
Ushering
Volunteers serve every other month and meet 30 minutes before the service begins in the North entrance area. Duties can include:

Welcome visitors and members
-
Distribute bulletins, the Update, etc.

Provide directions
-
Serve communion and collect the offering
-
Sort the offering and attendance cards
-
Manually count people in attendance
-
Clean up the worship center after the first service
Welcome Team
Volunteers commit to one month of service. Duties can include:

Provide information about the church and its ministries
- Personally welcome all who enter our building
- Staff the Guest Connections desks
- Distribute gift bags to visitors
- Assemble gift bags
- Bake “goodies” for our gift bags
Women's Event Planning
Volunteers serve monthly or as needed. Duties can include:

Researching conferences and workshops
- Advertising opportunities to attend events and conferences for women
- Planning events and workshops to be hosted by First Christian Church or in conjunction with other area churches
- Hosting events
Youth
Volunteers can serve during the Sunday morning 9:45 hour, Sunday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday nights from 8 to 10:30 p.m., or as needed.
